On the 30th of April, the gallery was filled with friends, family, and supporters celebrating the opening of Thomas Humphrey Rush’s first solo exhibition, The Quiet Distance.
The exhibition features a collection of modern, simplified landscapes and abstract scenes that invite moments of stillness and reflection. Through restrained compositions and subtle colour palettes, each artwork captures the beauty of quiet, distant places, encouraging viewers to pause and appreciate calm in simplicity.
Over a year ago, Thomas set himself the goal of working towards a solo exhibition. After spending the past few years building his confidence, knowledge, and artistic techniques through the Journey Through Art class, he developed the skills needed to bring this vision to life.
With the support of Arts for Health staff and his support worker, Thomas created 12 boho-inspired paintings for the exhibition. Each artwork reflects his dedication, creativity, and growth as an artist.
Guests enjoyed nibbles and conversation as the doors opened to reveal the collection Thomas had worked so hard to create. The opening was a fantastic success, with 50% of the artworks sold on the evening.
You can still view The Quiet Distance at the Corridor Gallery and hear Thomas share his story here.
