Sometimes the hardest part of being creative is starting

Art classes for 2026

Art in the Making is a relaxed, hands-on art workshop for anyone who wants to try something new, learn practical skills, and enjoy making art in a supportive space. It suits beginners, people returning to art after a long break, and anyone who feels a bit “dusty” but curious.

If you’ve ever thought I’d like to do art, but I don’t know where to begin, this workshop is for you.

What to expect

Art in the Making runs over eight Friday morning sessions and focuses on learning by doing. Each session offers clear guidance, time to experiment, and space to work at your own pace.

You’ll explore:

  • Image and form

  • Colour and texture

  • 2D and 3D processes

  • Mixed media techniques

Most sessions are designed to be completed in one sitting. Some projects, like printmaking, may carry over into a second session so you can follow the full process properly.

There is no pressure to produce a “perfect” result. The focus is on learning skills, trying things out, and building confidence.

A calm and encouraging tutor

The workshops are led by Eve Cunnane, an experienced tutor known for her calm, reassuring approach. Eve’s message is simple: you can’t get it wrong. All creativity is good creativity.

Participants often say they feel supported, capable, and surprised by what they achieve. Eve provides enough guidance to help each session succeed, while still giving you the freedom to explore your own ideas.

A space that works for you

Each group develops its own rhythm. Some sessions are chatty and social. Others are quieter and more focused. Both are welcome.

There is plenty of time to experiment, ask questions, and try new techniques. Spaces are limited so Eve can spend time with each person and respond to individual needs.

Over time, many participants find they:

  • Build a practical toolbox of art skills

  • Gain confidence in their own creative voice

  • Start forming a small personal collection of artworks

  • Renew a creative habit they’ve been missing

You’ll leave sessions with a quiet sense of achievement and a clear feeling that you’ve learned something new.
