Open Studio in the Braemar Charitable Trust Studio

Open studio is a self-directed creative space for people 16yrs and over. Pick your own art project and work at your own speed that is comfortable for you.

On your first day our art tutor will offer some suggestions to start you off on your artistic journey. If you have a specific project in mind you might like to start working towards that.

We ask for $5 for each session to help cover the costs of basic materials and equipment.

Supported Open Studio

Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 9:30am-2:30pm

Supported Open Studio is a program for those that would like to be part of a structured art class. Our arts tutor will take you through a range of art activities to introduce you to a wide range of techniques and skills.

The goals of supportive open studio are to build a creative portfolio of artwork, meet and make new friends, maintain wellness, be part of community art projects, have fun, share stories and laugh. This is a 2.5 hours art session.

$30 per class with all materials provided. We require 6 people to run this program.

Arts Therapy

We provide art therapy sessions for people who require therapeutic support to work through difficulties or issues in their lives with our registered art therapists. Art therapy uses creative processes including art making, drama and dance/movement within a therapeutic relationship to improve and enhance physical, emotional and mental welling.

Art therapy can be offered to people of all ages and abilities and embraces a variety of psychotherapy theoretical frameworks. This type of therapy can be practiced with individuals and groups, families and communities. Participants do not need to have prior experience of the creative modalities.

Beneficiaries may be eligible for WINZ or I AM HOPE funding. $135 per individual session. An initial 6x sessions is recommended.

Group Art Therapy

Group art therapy is suitable for teams or groups that are working towards intentional goals or to provide clinical support or professional development in the workplace, service or school.

A 2x hour art therapy group session starts at $620 + GST for a group of 6 and is individually tailored for the group. There is a ratio of 1:6 with a registered clinical arts therapist. Please contact us for further details.

Norris Ward McKinnon Art Gallery

Our own bespoke art gallery highlights the skills and aspirations of our artists and is the perfect way to develop the techniques required to be a competent exhibiting artist.

The gallery is also available to the public for hireage $30 per week.

Not for Profit Art Classes  for professional development

Our art classes are tailored to your organisational needs. These groups are suitable for team building and professional development.

A typical 2x hour art group class starts at $350 + GST for a group of up to 12 people.

Community Outreach Programmes

We provide a range of art programs and services in the wider community with the support from our stakeholders including regular art groups at Waikato Hospital thanks to The Braemar Charitable Trust.

We also hold regular art therapy groups in residential homes and schools in Hamilton.

If you have something special in mind for your group or team we are able to tailor specialised workshops for you based around creative arts and arts therapy. Please contact us to discuss your ideas further.

Studio Hireage

Arts for Health has two bespoke art studios which are available for hire outside of our regular hours. The studios are available Mondays and Fridays, evenings and weekends.

The Braemar Charitable Trust Studio

In conjunction with The Braemar Charitable Trust we are proud to offer a working studio space and kitchenette that caters for up to 15 people. The studio offers good lighting, easy access and free parking right outside the door.

Studio 1 space to rent

Studio 1 holds up to 8-10 people comfortably and has a fully equipped art studio and kitchenette. It also provides a venue for the delivery of clinical and therapeutic services for health professionals wanting to rent a space for clinical services.

Arts for Health Annual Art Competition & Exhibition

Our annual community art exhibition and competition is open to the public and provides an avenue for individual artists to exhibit their work. Watch our Facebook page for more details.
