Open Studio in the Braemar Charitable Trust Studio 

Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 9:30am-2:30pm

Open studio is a self-directed creative space for people 16yrs and over. Pick your own art project and work at a speed which is comfortable for you.

On your first day our art facilitator will offer some suggestions to start you off on your artistic journey. If you have a specific project in mind you might like to start working towards that.

Morning sessions are currently FULL. There are available spaces in the afternoon between 12:00 - 2:30. Sessions are $5 per time with access to basic materials and equipment.

Social Art Group, Mondays and Fridays

If you get distracted by the fridge, stereo, housework or other people, our Social Art Group might be the perfect place for you. We provide basic art materials and access to equipment, or you can bring along your own. Work at your own speed on your own projects.  Our Arts Facilitator is happy to give you a hand if you get stuck or need to bounce off ideas. These are small groups of no more than 10 people so it is best to book.

Monday and Friday's  9.30  - 2.30pm 

$10 per session, come for the whole day or part day, your choice

Individual Arts Therapy

Our registered art therapists provide therapeutic support for adults and children who would like to work through difficulties or issues in their lives. Art therapy uses creative processes including art making, drama and dance/movement within a therapeutic relationship to improve and enhance physical, emotional and mental welling.

Art therapy can be offered to people of all ages and abilities and embraces a variety of psychotherapy theoretical frameworks. This type of therapy can be practiced with individuals and groups, families and communities. Participants do not need to have prior experience of the creative modalities.

Beneficiaries may be eligible for WINZ or I AM HOPE funding. $135 per individual session. An initial 6x sessions is recommended.

Group Art Therapy

Group art therapy is suitable for teams or groups that are working towards intentional goals or to provide clinical support or professional development in the workplace, service or school.

A 2x hour art therapy group session starts at $620 + GST for a group of 6 and is individually tailored for the group. There is a ratio of 1:6 with a registered clinical arts therapist. 

Community Funded Workshops.  In conjunction with our funding partners we are able to offer art therapy for specific groups, ie children, families, women etc. These are offered intermittently.

Norris Ward McKinnon Art Gallery

Our own bespoke art gallery highlights the skills and aspirations of our artists and is the perfect way to develop the techniques required to be a competent exhibiting artist.

The gallery is also available to the public for hireage $30 per week.

Art Classes  for Professional Development

Our art classes are tailored to your organisational needs. These groups are suitable for team building and professional development. We can come to you, or you can run your workshop in our art studios. Basic art materials and equipment provided.

A typical 2x hour art group class starts at $350 + GST for a group of up to 12 people.

Community Workshops

There are new and exciting community workshops typically starting each term at our community base. This includes art therapy, sculpture and painting workshops. We also offer community based experiences at residential venues, community houses and organisations and schools. Watch our FB page for the latest updates.

Community Outreach Programmes

Thanks to the support of The Braemar Charitable Trust, we are able to provide art programmes for community groups.  This year our focus is on residents at the Hamilton Lions' Cancer Lodge and a local women and children's art group. We have previously supported patients at Waikato Hospital Older Persons Rehabilitation and Henry Rongomau Bennett Centre. 

Arts for Health provides art therapy in residential homes and schools in Hamilton and the Waipa district.

Studio Hireage

Arts for Health has two bespoke art studios which are available for hire outside of our regular hours. The studios are available Mondays and Fridays, evenings and weekends.

The Braemar Charitable Trust Studio

In conjunction with The Braemar Charitable Trust we are proud to offer a working studio space and kitchenette that caters for up to 15 people. The studio offers good lighting, easy access and free parking right outside the door.

Studio 1 space to rent

Studio 1 holds up to 8-10 people comfortably and has a fully equipped art studio and kitchenette. It also provides a venue for the delivery of clinical and therapeutic services for health professionals wanting to rent a space for clinical services.

Arts for Health Annual Art Competition & Exhibition

Our annual community art exhibition and competition is open to the public and provides an avenue for individual artists to exhibit their work. Watch our Facebook page for more details.

Arts in the Park

Celebrating the arts and artists of the Waikato, Arts in the Park is a community fundraising event held in the beautiful Ward Park in the middle of Hamilton.
